  • World Water Week Celebrations in villages in UP and Chhatisgarh - (2017-03-22) - HDFC UP, Chhatisgarh

    World Water day is celebrated every year on March 22ndThis year, the focus was on wastewater and ways to reduce and reuse as over 80% of all the wastewater from homes, villages, cities, industry and agriculture flows back to nature polluting the environment and losing valuable nutrients and other recoverable materials. There is an urgent need to improve the collection and treatment of wastewater and safely reuse it. At the same time, there is a need to reduce the quantity and pollution load of wastewater we produce, to help protect the environment and our water resources.


    AROH Foundation has been running various water related activities in 18 villages of UP as part of its integrated village development program supportedby HDFC Bank. World Water Day was an opportunity to reiterate the importance of water and importance of conserving and saving water by recharging and recycling. celebrated World Water Dayon March 22, 2017. Various activities were taken up with the communities to create awareness about water related issues and how to void water wastage. Nearly 6500 community members from 18poor and backward villages of Uttar Pradesh and Chattisgarh were sensitized on the need of water conservation, importance of drinking clean water and responsible use of water resources during the day.


    In order to provide access to safe and filtered water in villages, solar water pumps with water filters have been installed. These villages have contaminated ground water which people are forced to drink. As part of World Water Day celebrations, solar powered water filtration unitwas inaugurated and opened to public use in village Padua of Badaun District (Uttar Pradesh). Mr. Dharmendra Shak, MLA, ShekapurVidhan Sabha, Mr. D.P Bharti-leader and activist, key persons from the community and representatives from AROH Foundation and HDFC Bank graced the occasion with their presence. This initiative will empower the villagers in combating the diseases spreading due to consumption of contaminated water such as Diarrhoea, Intestinal worms and Typhoid. Approximately 2500 villagers from 400 households will benefit from the water filtration unit and access clean drinking water on a daily basis.


    A numberof other awareness events were conducted across more than 50 villages in form of motivational speeches, issue based sessions, children and women led rallies, distribution of water bottles and bags in government schools. Innovative and creative activities such as essay writing competitions, drawing competitions, wall paintings, gathering of water pledges, slogan writing competition were conducted during the day.
